This annual weekend festival is the highlight of our local events calendar! It starts with a Sundowner on the Friday evening with food, drinks, and live entertainment. Then continues on the Saturday with market stalls, wildflower displays, an art exhibition, bus tours to Reynoldson Reserve, a vintage car display, a stargazing & astrophotography excursion, botanical talks, books, rides & activities for the kids, plus lots more. In 2023 we will be celebrating our 18th Annual Reynoldson Reserve Wildflower Festival.
Sporting clubs are a vital part of regional communities. We’re fortunate here in Wongan Hills to have this impressive centre which houses facilities for indoor basketball / netball, football, gym, hockey, lawn bowls, squash, tennis, as well as a function area with a bar, changing rooms, outdoor BBQs, children’s playground, two ovals, and ample parking. The function room and facilities are available for private hire, and there’s a temporary visitor’s membership option to use the gym.
Travelling with children or pets? You will love our well-maintained, clean & tidy parks which all have children’s playground equipment.
They are located at:
• Apex Park – Wandoo Crescent;
• Community Park – Fenton Place; and
• Ballidu Alpha Park.
See our Shire page for more information.
Fancy a round of golf while on your travels? Our 18 hole public golf course is open April to September, and is located on Sadler Road, Wongan Hills. Call 08 9671 1086.
The site has associations with the earliest organised recreational activities in Wongan Hills. In 1912, the Progress Association requested land for the purposes of a recreation ground. They were subsequently given 20 acres of land west of the railway line. The Golf Club was active in 1931, when it offered to fund work relief in the Wongan Hills town. The first site of the Golf Club was the Railway Water Reserve. In 1939, the Golf Club relocated the course to this site (Race Course Reserve).
The Wongan Hills Memorial Swimming Pool is located off the Wongan-Calingiri Road.
This facility includes an Olympic sized pool, an infant pool, and a medium-sized/toddler pool, as well as play equipment. Well maintained, with grassed and shaded areas, making it a lovely place to relax and cool down in the warmer months.
Season normally opens October to April.
Travelling with kids can be both fun and sometimes challenging. So it’s good to know of places to keep them entertained along the way.
Our Skate Park is located in the Wongan Hills Community Nature Playground, which also has basketball court, toilets, picnic tables and a big gazebo.
